Three Factors You Cannot Control with Your Car Insurance Rates

Everyone wants to pay as little as possible when it comes to car insurance. Unfortunately, there are three factors you cannot control with your car insurance rates.

Car insurance rates are like televisions. There are certain things you can manipulate to get a better picture and certain things that just are. Car insurance rates can be teased and manipulated in a number of ways. You can raise deductibles, cancel unnecessary coverage and take other steps as well. At the end of the day, however, there are a few factors you just have to accept for the most part. Let’s take a close look.

Geography

Geography? Yes! Where you live is a definite factor in the rates you are charged for car insurance. The biggest issue is the statistical analysis of your area. Think about it. Do you think home insurance is a bit higher in Florida with its hurricanes or Los Angeles? The same goes for your location. If you live in an area with higher incident rates, your premiums are going to be higher because you are statistically more likely to have an accident.

With Age Comes Wisdom

This cliché might be debatable, but it is a pillar of the car insurance industry. The data does not lie. The younger you are, the more likely you are to get in an accident. The older you are, the less likely you are to do so. If you are in your teens, you can offset some of the cost with good grade discounts and the like. Make sure to ask your insurer.

Driving History

You can control how many tickets you get and, to a lesser extent, how many accidents you were in. What you can’t control is the past. Once these items are on your record, the rates you pay are going to go up. The more of them and the more severe they are, the more you are going to pay. It is as simple as that.

Don’t fret if these three factors work against you. You can take steps to lower your premiums. Try raising your deductible first. Second, eliminate elements of the insurance you might not need. Third, ask your insurer what discounts they offer including things like discounts for security systems and such. These will add up and save you a pretty penny.
